About us:
Roaring Wild NZ is a family-owned business based in South Canterbury, New Zealand, built around real rural life, lived experience, and a deep respect for the outdoors.
Founded in 2020 by Sammi and James Holland, Roaring Wild NZ began during lockdown as a creative outlet rooted in drawing, storytelling, and time spent reflecting on the life they live outdoors. What started as sketching and drawing challenges quickly grew into a brand that reflects hunting, fishing, food gathering, family, and the realities of rural New Zealand living.
Both Sammi and James have strong South Island roots. James is a Southland Boy, while Sammi is from Mid Canterbury. The outdoors has always been central to their lives, from hunting and fishing to raising their two daughters, Indy and Millie, with a close connection to nature. Their shared journey has taken them from Stewart Island, where they became engaged, to countless days in the hills and on the water, shaping both their lifestyle and their work.
James is a professional taxidermist, and together Sammi and James own and operate On Point Taxidermy NZ. James specialises in full taxidermy work including shoulder mounts, life-size mounts, European mounts, and custom projects. His extensive hands-on experience, deep understanding of animal anatomy, and respect for wildlife strongly influence the realism, accuracy, and integrity behind Roaring Wild NZ designs.
Sammi is a stay-at-home mum who balances family life with running Roaring Wild NZ. Her artwork is inspired directly by their everyday experiences such as early mornings, muddy boots, time spent outdoors, and the moments that come from living a hands-on rural lifestyle.
Roaring Wild NZ is proudly supported by a small group of ambassadors and friends who genuinely live this way of life, allowing the brand to grow while staying true to its values and creating meaningful products for customers across New Zealand and overseas.
ABOUT OUR DESIGNS
All Roaring Wild NZ designs are hand-drawn by owners Sammi and James Holland.
James primarily works in traditional pencil, with occasional use of acrylics and pigment pens. His background as a full-time taxidermist through On Point Taxidermy NZ brings a strong focus on anatomical accuracy, realism, and respect for the animals represented in each design.
Sammi has explored a range of artistic mediums over time and is now fully self-taught in digital illustration, drawing on an iPad while maintaining a detailed, hand-drawn style. This allows each piece to retain its original character while being refined for use across stickers, apparel, prints, and custom products.
Every design reflects real experiences such as animals encountered, places visited, seasons lived through, and moments that mattered. Roaring Wild NZ artwork is drawn from life, with authenticity and attention to detail at the core of every piece.
